getting local knowledge is priceless….we nearly bought some stone from a local quarry…until speaking with one farmer , then that conversation being backed up by the others , don't buy that rubbish boy..it will crumble and wash out by winter….far to soft…anyway…i took the advice and got told to drop a few names…to this other quarry….the price dropped dramatically …happy days...
the boys are coming around to lay the 1st lot, they have already been down and help dig out the track..or should i say level the ground…2 days with a mini digger then they helped site the static,
and lets just say for a stupid price…in fact it was so stupid , i doubled it…and still got a bargain
well 32 tonne of 3-4 inch stone has arrived, this should help …as usual, the british summer is sending down the rain. the drive way is like a quagmire , the 4x4 and quad have come into their own…so glad i never skimped on these two,
just waiting for the gas engineer to connect the big bottles to the static and give it a gas safe check,
well thats all done…every step makes life that little bit more easier...
so cooking a nice roast lamb dinner for H tonight
well the POL chooks have just started to lay..happy days
what a difference a bit of sunshine makes, been able to start the pig arc, almost finished the goat house now , just started the new duck pen, and ordered our 1st couple of OSB piggies to pick up next week….off now to register for on line movement licence
almost finished the 1st pig arc, didn't want a traditional tin one, so opted for wood, came out cheaper in price, but not time build, the ducks will be moving to another paddock with a small pond
in some ways i admire how quick some have gotten animals on site, for us it was always going to be a slow start,
i didn't want to get contractors in, i really felt the need to learn and be able to do all aspects of farming, so as many of you will see, we have been building all our animal houses, wether from kit form or from scratch like the goat and pig houses, i have really enjoyed this, along with learning to drive the old massey digger, a thing i had never done before,
the slope as we call it, hasn't really been a bad challenge, but it had us thinking a bit differently , and we have had to buy machinery to suit the job, thanks to Groundhog, for the tip about the BCS…this machine is simply awesome …..
anyway…yesterday had us needing a few hours break, so we took our selves off to the local steam rally….we bumped into one of the neighbours, who introduced us to a few more locals….
this has resulted in more coffee stops lol…. the welcome here has been fantastic, its almost like we have been taken under the wing….
anyway…must bash on..lots to do...
really enjoyed the trip out yesterday, i do like a bit of massey Porn lol
pigs have arrived… once we have gained some experience..the pig numbers will go up…happy days.all part of the plan..walk before running the electric strands seem to be working
well the base stone has now been laid in the drive way…lovely to see the back of the mud, this means i can have a good tidy up and make the entrance look nice

thank you…i'm enjoying this , love building things, never done it before
anyway, just made a small run for the young orpingtons, they are now in the orchard area,
