Hi
Could I use any part of my landscaping and garden maintenance business income as part of my financial test requirement, and how could I account for the purchase of plants from my new nursery so that this is included. Would I need to run two businesses. The smallholding and the garden business. Your thoughts would be a help.

Hi,
If you run this as two businesses the nursery in your name or your spouses and the landscaping business, if it is run as a separate entity, with a separate name then you should be able to purchase plants from the nursery. This should satisfy the planning requirements.
Regards,
Dave

We're thinking about doing the exact same thing as you kernow. We aslo have a landscaping business and are in the process of setting up the samllholding. So we're planning to grow ornamental plants for the landscape side and sell them to ourselves to boost the smallholding business, like you say for the financial test.
I've run this past an accountant and can't see any problems with it. He said we should run the two business separately but can share the same vat registration number.
Be very interested to hear how you get on....and good luck!
