I was towing a livestock trailer today, without any livestock inside, and was pulled by the local police.... They informed me it was just a spot check due to s spate of thefts in my area blah blah blah .... After they checked it all out the policeman asked me if I ever transported animals in the trailer.... I said ' not often but it has been known, why's that' his reply.... ' do you hold a certificate of competency moving animals on journeys less than 40 miles?'
Any ideas anybody? Never heard of this myself

The movement forms ask for a number if you are going over 65 km and times of departure / rest stops etc
There isn't one for under 65 ( 40 m)as I know
Have you done a trailer test young un ?

Ha ha Na not done the test mate, I should do as I often tow but I sort of begrudge paying for something I can do perfectly well..... I will have to do it at some point I suppose. Do you have a cert for over 65km shepie or is that a ' grandad' right of your older style driving licence.... Just wondering how I will over come this if I bought stock from an auction centre like bridgewater!!

I scraped in by a couple of months on my licence... Although I'm not sure anyone should trust me to reverse a bloody trailer... 7.5 tonne lorry no probs, but trailers are sent from the devil!
Soooooooo glad I don't have to sit a test!

Did you get the answer to your question? Competency for each livestock type to be moved needed for commercial journeys over 40 miles - so if you keep sheep just for your own family not needed. If you are taking them to market (over 40 miles) to sell, or delivering livestock you've sold you'd need one for sheep, one for pigs etc
