Following various stories of people suffering because of the havoc the recent storms have caused and learning that they are not insured, we started thinking.

Can one get insurance on a mobile home if it does not have temporary or full planning permission?  We asked one company and they said that they would need a letter from the Council stating that the caravan was legally sited there, so what on earth do all the owners of self-build statics do about insurance?  Just sit and hope for the best?

Actually, we cannot imagine any council writing a letter stating that a 'caravan' is legally sited there if they have already issued a pcn, because if they would do so why would they have originally issued a pcn?

As many of us know, many councils issue pcns without proper justification usually because they have received a complaint.

However, you have raised an very interesting point - have you obtained such a letter from the council?
