Our two Alpaca roam the smallest of our fields which has a few Blueberry bushes in, the chickens and the pigs, they happily graze on the vegitation and now nibble at the blueberry bushes as well. However this morning while feeding the pigs they decided to have a sample of the Pig Nuts we feed to the pigs, they seemed to enjoy them, does any one know if this will do the Alpaca any harm as it is cheaper than the Alpaca suppliments.

Not shure of the copper content of pig nuts or if alpacas have a problem with it like sheep ?

Hi , I would consult an Alpaca aware vet before giving these animals Pig Nuts , there digestion habits are very different as is there suppliment requirements.Not shure of the copper content of pig nuts or if alpacas have a problem with it like sheep ?

Hi - it was not that we were giving the alpacass the nuts - the problem was with the fact that the alpacas could just step over the pigs' electric fence and help themselves. However, this was way back before the pigs turned their pens into a quagmire - the alpacas keep well away now.
An interesting thing is that the pigs know that they can get through the fence anytime they feel like it and don't do so. What they do do is spend hours digging out the gateposts over and over again. We are on the lookout for a couple of large tyres which we hope will occupy their attention istead.

Yes all is going very well thanks, we now have 43 Alpacas and still managing to sell ! even in the present economic climate.
We are making a living purely from the Pacas now and our small shop.
I hope all is well in your neck of the woods and the comming year will be a good one for us all.
