It has become fairly obvious that some of us who are described as 'Member' is in fact a 'Book Owner'. Is there a way in which someone who joined the forum as a member, could then update their status when they become a book owner? This should then mean that they have access to more information.

Hi
I have been trying to work out a way to accomplish this and it is very difficult, It is obvious that a lot of people that use the forum have not read the book or have not bought a copy from the questions they ask. When i tried to make the forum mostly pass word protected i seemed to spend most of my time telling people how to gain entry to the protected part. What most people are unaware of is that unless i sell books this forum will no longer exist for it is the sales which fund it. So when i am asked a stupid question which is covered in the book repeatedly it is difficult to bite ones tongue as to not upset anyone including the free loader. It is a problem that i will give some thought to in the near future.

Regards Dave

Hi Dave,

Understand the sentiments :)

Without knowing the full details of what you have purchased from IP Board its a bit tricky to help, but from experience, there ought to be a setting within the Admin console to differentiate those who register.

There is usually a setting to allow only certain members permission to view all of the forum. In such, there is then the facility to restrict other members to only partially view the forum. It's a bit like planning officers and the cases they can deal with. The Junior officers only get to deal with minor extensions and garden sheds whereas the most Senior officers get taken out for lunch to the best places by the massive developers!,,, ooooops, straying a bit there :)

Actually, I've just had a qucik read up on IP Boards website and it does say there that precise permissions can be structured. This may save a lot of time in dealing with password enquiries.
