I plan on splitting a large 8 acre field into 3 smaller fields but I want to do it with natural hedging as opposed to fencing the fields off... Do I need to get any form of permission for this or can I just crack on and put the hedging in!

crack on, if anything you'd be applauded and you might be able to find grants to help with the cost

you will need to remap your land as you will now have different size fields as far as the rpa are concerned

If you mean how to plant the hedge then look on you tube. Find a tube called '1 - How to plant a country hedge - Ashridge trees'

Thats a good one.

If your land is registered for Rpa payments you will get maps and if you want to make permenant boundary changes ( new fences) you will need to fill out a rle1 form with revised maps
That will give them a good excuse not to pay you for months :-( but it should come soon

Yeah i'm not registered either, think we're just shy of enough useable land to be worth it

When I looked back on the historic maps of our land, I noticed that there were hedges no longer present. I intend to re-plant those first.

If you can look back on your own you might find that there was a different layout than today. This might not help you in the officious quest here but it might help in other ways.
