Where do we stand getting a phone line connected if we only have temporary permission?

I know they have to cover the first £3400 (or something) of a new connection but my gut feeling is that they won't be interested in doing this for a temporary dwelling.

Thoughts/experiences?

Your business needs a phone line - that's the truth of the matter, so all that matters for planning.

From BT's perspective, they are obliged to connect residential customers, so we just called BT, said we were moving and gave them our new address. They came, lead a cable from a nearby pole to our static, bodged the wiring and left.

We've had two new lines installed, domestic each time.  First one was to a portacabin requiring one pole.  Second one a few years later to a jackleg cabin requiring 3 poles, well it should have been 2 poles and they were going to drop a drum of cable in to bury but got to the farm one morning and they were already there putting oles in and the cable hadn't arrived so we hadn't installed it so they bunged an extra pole in.  The second new line was when we relocated our office and I rang BT for a quote to move the line, but the helpful girl said it would be cheaper (fixed cost) to have a new line installed to the new location and then cancel the old line and transfer the number across
