Hi there,  I would be interested to hear of advice or opinions on the best brand and type of waterproof clothing, particularly jackets .I'm not after spending money just to get a posh name, but equally am not afraid to pay out for something that is a good investment.  That will do the job and last for years!

Thanks

Gortex is  deffinately the way to go, having worked outside for most of my life, anything thats not breathable tends to soak you in sweat if you are doing anything physical.

Going back to my walking days as a rambler, I ask you what w2ork are you going to be doing in it?

For example.  Driving in an ATV without rain trousers will chaff you later!  But you wont need the same water-proofness to open gates and feed the fish!

Ask what you need to spend the most pounds on and what can be from tesco.  (I would buy a cheap pair of tesco water-proofs once a year rather than spend a fortune on a named pair that WILL tear a while down the line)

Got to be breathable - I have a non breathable jacket - I think it is branded 'Dickies' and it is like a throwback to the past. It's hilarious, it gets wetter on the inside than the outside!

From there, you then have to consider how much you are going to trash the jacket before you spend a lot...

Zip up pockets are a must, but the zips need to be robust.

We're also looking at the moment for the right answers :-)

Ideas

Sports Direct - they sometimes have good kit in.

Walking shops - have sales

Army Surplus

Ebay

Then - do wax jackets make the list? hmmm,

Gortex is breathable…thats why HM forces use them, and very tough… even 2nd hand can be a good deal
