Myself, Wife and two young children have found ourselves homeless by the end of September 2014.

We have always wanted to start our own holding but have never saved up enough money for the field to farm way of 12 acres.

So we are looking to see if we can buy some small land, live on it say in a caravan, while we go through planning for a "hobbit" type structure, a eco low footprint house.

If anyone could help we would be very grateful.Thankyou.

Hi, yes I think you could live on it while you apply for permission, but you will probably be hounded intimidated and bullied and your lives will be made very miserable by the powers that be in the council.

Have you looked at Chapter 7's website, they advise move on, being prepared to fight, before you start with the planners. Wish I had the courage to do it, best of luck and keep posting!

I would take Bramblebashers advice.  Whatever you do, don't rush it.  The more surreptitious you are the more chance of success.  (softly. softly catchee monkey)  If you change an area quickly people will complain.  If you do it slowly, people don't mind as much.

Even if you set up the business and move onto the land over a period of years, will give you more chance of success.

There is an answer to this.  Plan B for me was to buy just five acres (It could have been less) and do what folk are getting permission to do and look at the One Planet Developement.

In a nutshell, it is what folk like your hobbity selves might just want.

You might have heard of the Lammas project.  If not, look it up!  Well they litraly started it off.  And the concept is simple, and as I type, more and more plans are are being accepted.

You will need a plan.  A proper business plan.  In it it will show earnings after, and in the run up to, five years of running your business.  In the mean time you can build a home (or hole :nyam: ) and live there on site, building the business up and making it work.

Its arse around face to the F2F method.  But the ideas are not there to build a farm with a barn and huge farmhouse, it is to be a self-sustaining farmer that has a viable business.  Go to their web pages and look at the sucsesfull aplications (and failures) to get an idea.

I have been to the Lammas site a few times and the chaps there have inspired us no end..We are going again soon to thank them for all their help and support.

Hi Admin...  I just noticed that FutureHobbit has not posted for a while.

If possible, could you email them (I dont have their email) and tell them that this info is there for them?

I can point them in the right direction to start.  Or just give them my email address.

The similarities in them and myself is close!! and dis-heartening.

:)
