how small a barn will satisfy your agricultural need and still be large enough to take a while to build?

The sooner it's substantially finished, the sooner the caravan will have to go (or you apply for temp agri dwelling)

We would like the barn to be 20ft x 30ft, but would this size qualify for us for a mobile home

you are allowed to stay on the land while you are engaged in building works, so yes, why would you suspect this not to be the case?

If you are trying to live on the land whilst building the barn then the bigger the better as you will be able to justify being there longer
The planning won't cost you more for a 100x30 but it will take you longer to build , you just need to be able to justify it
Then even if you only construct 30 ft you can say you are going to build the rest and gain more time !!!!
