just make a start, you don't need to complete, just start the build.

Get some trenches dug and footings in ideally, even if you have to pay a contractor it'd be worth it to not lose your permission.

we looked at a barn in wales that had full planning permission, the time had almost lapsed, the farmer was told to make a start or he would need to apply again,

so he put in a concrete floor, the LPA seemed to be happy with this, i now see the barn has been sold….i just hope the poor so and so's met the neighbours 1st

As above, if you just start then you are ok. BUT the other option is to apply for an amendment of plans - i.e. move//add a door or something or extend garden line ( I think it costs half of the original planning fee again)..... usually if you have planning they will agree to that and when they do I THINK (but not 100% sure) that your time restarts. Obviously not the best option but it is an alternative. You can of course apply for an extension (usually just a formality.

If you have permission I would get the footings dug and inspected by building control then you have undisputable proof that you have begun and there is no need to extend the permission.  Many people will do this and pour the floor slab then it's ready to build when you are.

just make sure any pipe outlets are catered for before pouring the concrete….

The reason I suggested the extension of planning was purely on a cost basis - yes absolutely ideal to do footings - it depends on how much money is available.... concrete ain't cheap! :blackeye:
