This Smallholder Weekend sounds as though it could be interesting. It is the second year running that one has been held at the National Trust Property, Cotehele, St Dominick, near Saltash in Cornwall.

Various interests are covered such as keeping bees, chickens, alpacas; growing food; cultivating fruit, etc, etc. There will be a range of smallholding equipment and renovated gardening tools available. Also the Tamar Valley AONB will be promoting the Tamar Grow Local project with talks and demonstrations.

Apart from smallholding specialists, there will also be locally produced crafts and even willow basket making demonstrations and sales.

Children are encouraged to come and join in. Indeed, this year, there is to be a scarecrow competition and the children are welcome to come and make their own scarecrow - the more scarecrows, the better!

On Saturday there will be a falconry display, whilst on Sunday there will Morris Dancers.

Amongst the many things on sale, there will be locally made apple juice and Cotehele Mill flour. It is intended that BBQ lunches will be obtainable from the Barn Restaurant.

We did not attend last year's weekend but are hoping to be able to do it this year. We will let you know how we get on if we succeed in getting there!
