same with us, no caravans but we could have 20 tents. However C&C still wanted facility for chemical toilets, didn't see the point as not many tents have chemical toilets so didn't bother.

we thought about full planning but a high court ruling recently made us think twice. The case in question allowed the building of the shower block but would you believe not the change of use of the land (from agriculture)

Hi If you stick with the candc and do your own thing as well the neighbour may not be able to differentiate who is doing what

we have done camping for 2 years now.  not with candc .  or the council.    We put out loads of posters in nearby towns and positioned push bikes chained to lamp posts at the ferry ports with advertising on them and advertised in all the local meeting places and shops .  Also had an ad on the local internet trading forum  ( wightbay).  Can't wait for this season to start.  We charge £5 per tent per night and so is really cheap if their are 2 or more. We have a solar shower and a compost loo. Also a washing up sink with water.  Open fires are allowed on metal sheets provided ,and pets are welcome.  plus we are near 2 well known festivals.

I think a campsite suits smallholders/farmers and gives a nice bit of money as well.

Thanks for your replies guys. Are you saying then, that we can just go and set up our campsite ourselves without using the c & c club and also dont need to notify or ask permission from the planners?

We only want to have maybe upto 10 tents and we're not even sure that we want any caravans at all.

Thanks

not sure on that one ,we have put in 3 phase electric ready for 5 hook up points and i can install a 3800 litre chemical storage tank for 1k and have hard standing for 2 motor homes year round already

there are not many motor homes that dont have need for electric or somewhere to empty their toilet , it should boost the £/night income and attract more people

yes .  you do not have to notify planners or the candc club.  It is covered by the legislation earlier on in this thread.

We have made sure that the showers and loos are mobile.

this charity http://www.greenandaway.org/  set up their entire campsite for 2 months every year under the legislation and have paying customers for 1 month. They even have glamping and a bar tent ( license required).I used to be a volunteer there and sometimes we had 100 people all without planning interference.

Hi Shepie,

Looks like you are sorted, great, hope it goes well for you.

Hi Bo,

Have thought about a solar shower, but does it give enough hot/warm water to supply enough for your campers? and does your washing up sink have cold and hot water?

Thanks

Hi Tottenham

I suppose if we did it ourselves without c & c we dont really need to follow their rules ie tank for effluent etc as you say not many campers in tents have loos, but we would need to supply a toilet of some description - portaloo on wheels?

Hi.   The solar shower is our Mk 1 version that gives enough hot water for showers for about 15 people after 12.00 every day when the sun is shining..  This is made clear to campers when they arrive.  The mk2 version will have a woodburner backup and will give 24 hour hot water.  The sink has cold water at the moment but will have hot as well with the mk2 hot water system.

At greenandaway they only have woodburning showers and they are very hot with minimal wood consumption.

Sounds great, although I wonder if there is any way of using an actual solar panel to heat the water. I have heard these solar "bags" dont really work. Using a logburner sounds good but wont you have to be around a lot to keep topping it up?

As you can imagine I am not very technical :)

the best solar water heaters are the 'evacuated tube' panels but our one works well and is like this one  http://www.homestead...er-project.html

but not as pretty.  I cant post pictures in the gallery as the file is too large. We are going to get evacuated tubes from here http://www.bimblesol...acuated-tube-15  for our mk2 version.

at greenandaway they use two house radiators welded together in a tent shape as their log burner which then feeds into hot water storage tanks. There are many ways to heat water.  http://www.builditso...ating.htm#Batch

Brilliant thanks, although think we will need a roof on the outside shower :) and will need to be on wheels!

Have today confirmed with c & c club that we wish to go ahead with "tents only" and "small motorhome only" site. They will now send us their "works to complete" list. So we will need to bury a cesspit, provide 2 water taps (1 for fresh water & 1 to wash out the campers own portaloos). Think we will provide a sink to wash pots and maybe a portaloo and possibly a shower. Any suggestions ie are we not providing enough or are we providing too much?

Thanks

KChally
