Hi all, this is our first time on the Forum but have had the book for a couple of years and been reading the website regularly.
Having been disappointed with the lack of suitably sized land coming on the market over the last couple of years we have finally decided to take the risk of buying a smaller parcel of land (9.5 acres). So we're doing it the hard way! We plan to start growing asap to get the business going and, after a few months we'll get our pigs and poultry and move on to the land in temporary accommodation at the same time. Once moved on to the land with our animals we will then request planning permission for a temporary agricultural dwelling for the purpose of looking after our animals.
We'd prefer to get a log cabin but a saleperson alerted us to the issue of building regulations in regard to insulation (making the cabin very expensive £30k+). Does a temporary home have to comply with any building regulations? Surely the caravans most people choose to live in to follow the plan or when building their own house do not comply to these regs? If we do need to comply how do we find out what the regulations are so we can be sure whatever we live in can't be refused permission on the grounds of not meeting the building regs.
Starting to get a bit jittery now! It's going to be a scary journey!
