Caravans

Under planning law certain organisations are exempt from planning permission and the need for site licenses, the Caravan Club is such an organisation and can certify a location to set up a touring caravan site. This would allow you to have 5 touring caravans at any one time on your land, this would of course be for caravan club members only. There are no onerous conditions attached to having a site, the caravan club even advertise your site in their year book and on their website.

If the caravan site is popular then you may be able to expand, you would have the figures from your existing caravan site to support a planning application to expand the site. Government policy supports the leisure industry in the countryside, in fact more than farming, so any application to bring more tourists into thecountryside is looked upon favourably.

The Caravan Club will visit your site to see if it’s suitable and you would probably need to provide electric hook-ups for the pitches. You will need toilets, showers and a sluice for the caravan waste. There would be no limit on when you open, it could be all year round or just in the season, the choice is yours. This is a good way to supplement your income for very little input and you would also have the opportunity to sell produce to the people who use the site.
